Senior Research Scientist
Celene Domitrovich oversees the review and development of CASEL’s guides to evidence-based programs. She is also a key leader in a variety of research projects for CASEL.
Before joining CASEL Celene served for 14 years as the assistant director of the Prevention Research Center for the Promotion of Human Development at Penn State University. She maintains her academic affiliation with Penn State and is currently a visiting Research Associate Professor at Georgetown University. She completed her Ph.D. in child clinical psychology at Penn State University.
Celene is interested in the development of social and emotional competence in young children, the role of teachers in children’s acquisition of these skills, and how these skills are related to success in school. She is the developer of Preschool PATHS, a curriculum that fosters social-emotional learning in young children. In addition to evaluating that program, she has conducted several randomized trials of school-based prevention programs for children in elementary and middle school. She is particularly interested in testing integrated models and translational research studies related to the implementation and dissemination of evidence-based programs in communities.
Celene has co-authored two reports for the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS). The first included programs that have been effective in preventing mental health disorders. The second described a conceptual model of implementation of school-based prevention programs.
Celene served two terms on the board of the Society for Prevention Research. The first was as the chair of the Early Career Prevention Network and the second was as an elected member. In 2011 she received CASEL’s Joseph E. Zins award for Action Research in Social Emotional Learning.
