Adopt and implement evidence-based programs for academics and SEL in all schools.

Social and emotional skills can be developed in many ways. One particularly important approach is the adoption of evidence-based programs that explicitly address a full range of social and emotional competencies for all students in all grades. Such programs are proven to increase students’ social and emotional skill development through direct instruction. They complement SEL practices that are integrated into regular, ongoing instructional strategies. Implementation of an evidence-based program may begin in a small number of schools or grade levels and build over time. Teachers will require professional development to implement the district’s chosen program with fidelity.
