Eric Schaps serves as a consultant to CASEL on organizational strategy and as one of two CASEL consultants to the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.
Eric is also founder of the Developmental Studies Center (DSC) in Oakland, Calif. Eric founded DSC in 1980 to focus on designing school and after-school programs that simultaneously foster children’s academic, ethical, social and emotional development. DSC’s programs have been adopted by more than 140,000 classrooms and after-school sites.
Eric is the author of three books and 85 book chapters and articles on education, program evaluation and prevention of problem behaviors. He has been principal investigator on $80,000,000 of grants from philanthropic and public sources. He is the recipient of the Science into Practice award from the Society of Prevention Research and the Sandy Award for Lifetime Achievement in Character Education from the Character Education Partnership. He received his doctorate in social psychology from Northwestern University, where he also did his undergraduate work.
