Education Week Spotlights Social and Emotional Learning and CASEL
Education Week, the nation's leading education periodical, regularly covers social and emotional learning in its news articles, its blogs, and its opinion pieces. Particularly noteworthy in late summer of 2015 were two special features you can access or download from our website.
"Social-Emotional Learning in Action--How a Leading District Responded to the Community's Clarion Call" is an interview with Paul Goren, superintendent of schools in Evanston, Ill. A strong advocate of social and emotional learning, Goren was formerly a key staff member of CASEL and remains close to CASEL as a member of its board of directors. The interview was conducted by Tom Vander Ark and Mary Ryerse of Getting Smart, an educational research, policy, and advocacy organization of which Vander Ark is the CEO. Download the interview.
In early September Education Week featured a webinar titled "Social-Emotional Learning: Systemic Innovation for Improved Outcomes." The webinar focused on the implementation of districtwide social and emotional learning in Austin, Texas. Presenters included Austin Superintendent Paul Cruz; the district's director of social and emotional learning, Sherrie Raven; and CASEL's Chief Knowledge Officer Roger P. Weissberg. The webinar was moderated by Joan Duffell, CEO of Committee for Children. This webinar is part of the Education Week webinar archives and can be accessed at no cost. Click here to view the webinar.
